Day 39: Recall

March 1, 2012

Today I recalled SB 264 from the House that the Senate passed out yesterday on a 24-0 vote. I thought the bill had been amended. In its present form, I fear it constitutes a hidden insurance mandate.

I am also rounding up votes for SCR 11, my NDAA resolution. I spoke passionately for it during our caucus lunch. I found out the hard way that I didn’t have the votes to un-circle it, since several senators would prefer to not have to deal with the issue. Since Hatch, Bishop and Matheson all voted for the NDAA, some fear that my resolution will become an election issue.

We spent all day on the Senate floor today, for the first time this session. We also received a preliminary report on which of the approved bills will be funded. As expected, there is simply not enough money to go around. Some egos took a blow today as a result.
